Tracy & Hobbs
Between 2009 and 2016 Lizzy Hobbs and artist Emily Tracy delivered many community projects, sharing their love of drawing, early cinema, animation and artist’s books and exploring subjects such as sneezes, jumping bugs and mudlarking with collaborators and groups of all ages.
Whitton Small Press (2016)
Tracy & Hobbs were artists in residence at Whitton Library, London Borough of Richmond. The project was funded by the Arts Council England Art in Libraries fund. Tracy & Hobbs set up residence from a cupboard at the back of the reference section. Filling the library with typewriters, rubber stamps and a photocopier they set about creating a set of small edition self published books which were presented to the library as a permanent new addition to the library.
The Foyer (2015)
Tracy and Hobbs worked with a group of 16 to 24 year-olds who were homeless or at risk of homelessness from the Foyer, Cambridge as part of Circuit – a programme connecting 15-25 year olds with artistic activity at Kettle’s Yard.
Bureau of Lost and Found (2013)
Working with an archeologist from The Museum of London, we did some mudlarking on the shores of the River Thames and displayed, sorted and labelled the finds in an imaginary bureau for lost and found articles in The Floating Cinema.
Water Folk (2013)
A community project with older people and school pupils, to make a film about the tiny creatures dwelling in the canals and waterways of East London. An ACE funded moving image commission for the Floating Cinema & UP Projects in collaboration with scientist Professor Malcolm Burrows.
Pop Up Picture Palace (2012)
Wood Street Pop Up Picture Palace, was about the film studios that used to be in the area. Tracy & Hobbs worked with the local community and created a big outdoor screening with popcorn. Commissioned by Wood Street Inside Out.
Germinator (2011)
A First Light funded animated film created with year 4 pupils at Gayhurst Community School using archive footage from the BFI.
